In term 2, we learnt about the different types of separation methods. Our Science assigned a project for us to do. The topic is: A case of sabotage has been reported in The Drink Up Live Long (DULL) bottled distilled water company. All the water from batch 1234Z (3000 bottles x 500 ml) was contaminated by unknown substances and is not suitable for sale.
You belong to a team working in the research and development unit of DULL. You have been assigned to prepare a report on the contamination of batch 1234Z, and to investigate if batch 1234Z can be repurified for sale. You have access to all common laboratory equipment.
However, there seems to be many different contaminants in the water, which makes investigation difficult.Here are our observations:1. the magnets on your desk keep getting attracted to grey solids in the bottles 2. white solids present 3. yellow liquid floating on top 4. strong alcohol smell5. Futhermore there might be more contaminants present that cannot be observed directly Thus, we have to use the different forms of separation techniques to make the water clean.
